Building a Woman-Centered AIDS Response in Africa, Asia and the Americas
The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) will participate in a discussion about how creating women leaders can result in favorable outcomes for women, especially those living with HIV. Although most government and private sector leaders recognize that AIDS disproportionately affects women, few women have decision-making roles regarding AIDS policy, funding and programs. This session will present lessons learned from a cutting-edge, Ford Foundation-funded leadership training program that empowered women globally to advocate for a woman-centered approach to HIV and AIDS. Speakers will include Reshma Trasi, ICRW’s HIV, AIDS and development advisor, who helped train prospective women leaders to work in their own communities with teachers, ex-offenders, sex workers and others.
Attendees also will learn about the methodology and content of the program, which was led by the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) and its partners, ICRW, the International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ICW), and the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC).
