Communication Specialist
ICRW’s Communication division seeks a Communication Specialist to develop and implement communication and media advocacy policy to strengthen ICRW’s presence and visbility in the region.
Reporting to the Regional Director Asia, the Communication Specialist will develop and implement a communication strategy to increase the visibility and recognition for the ICRW brand in the region and enhance understanding of the Organisation’s efforts, stances and strategy amongst internal and external stakeholders. Enhance communication and presentation skills and capacity of the regional staff.
Primary Duties:
- Work with Regional Director Asia, Communications Consultant & Communications Director in DC to develop and implement communications strategy & plan to support ICRW’s mission in the region.
- Contribute towards content & design of related communication materials, including annual report, newsletter, brochure, galas and ARO web site etc.
- Identify and maintain ongoing relations with national print, broadcast, and electronic media and for working with local partners to implement local media campaigns for regular coverage.
- Along with the Consultant identifies opportunities to support organizational initiatives and develop communications materials and programs to promote and publicize events & activities.
- Plan & write promotional materials, speeches, articles, letters-to the-editor and press release as appropriate.
- Build and foster collaborative relationships with other divisions within the organization to stay informed and abreast of new initiatives, projects and services.
- Support the Communications Director in DC to develop and monitor institutional editorial style, and to review and revise publications procedures as necessary to improve systems and increase efficiency.
- Adhere to and oversee – logo, style, editorial process and copyright guidelines.
- As needed, serve as the primary editor of ICRW ARO research and project publications, which includes substantial edits, possible rewriting, copyedits and proofreading of material, working with research staff and project directors to address any information gaps, identify key messages and determine the best media and design for disseminating the information.
- As needed, write, edit and copyedit additional content for special reports, policy papers, press materials, fact sheets, promotional materials, the Web and other e-media.
Required Education, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Master’s degree in journalism, mass communication, English or related field.
- Five (5) to seven (7) year’s public or media relations or journalism experience and experience in developing communications strategy especially in the development sector, solid media relations experience and documented news coverage placements. Experience as an editor/writer of publications, with a working knowledge of graphics standards and design.
- Excellent writing, editing, oral communication and interpersonal skills with a track record of working effectively both within teams and alone. Analytical skills required to understand, interpret and write about complex, technical developmental issues. Demonstrated capacity for critical, independent, and creative thinking.
- Excellent organizational skills needed to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline. Understanding of the contemporary electronic communications environment. Computer literacy required to include proficiency in standard business applications (MS Office Suite) in a Windows XP environment in (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Skills in cross-cultural team work a plus.
