Girls Not Brides USA, a branch of the worldwide partnership Girls Not Brides, has released a policy brief – “Ending Child Marriage: What Will it Take?” – that outlines the necessary steps that will lead to a reduction in high levels of the harmful global practice. Among other recommendations, the brief calls on governments, non-profits, and the private sector to come together on this issue in order to more effectively combat it.

In addition to providing strategic guidance, the brief highlights existing programs that have achieved positive results. The most successful programs have often implemented more than one of the following strategies: working directly with married girls or girls who are at-risk of early marriage; educating and mobilizing parents, religious leaders, and community leaders; enhancing educational opportunities for girls; providing economic support or incentives; and fostering a policy and legal framework for enabling change.
