ICRW Announces New Director, Chimaraoke Izugbara

ICRW is pleased to announce that renowned Nigerian researcher Chimaraoke Izugbara will join ICRW as Director of Global Health, Youth and Development.

Dr. Izugbara currently directs the Population Dynamics and Reproductive Health Program at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Nairobi, where he has led their groundbreaking work to understand the dynamics that affect reproductive health and sexuality, particularly for adolescents and youth in sub-Saharan Africa. He has published over 100 scholarly papers and books on gender, youth, sexuality and maternal, sexual and reproductive health. He also has a forthcoming book on the global sex industry.

Dr. Izugbara is known for his deep expertise in research and research capacity building, having led APHRC’s Research Capacity Strengthening Division for nearly a decade. A professor-at-large at the School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, Dr. Izugbara has also taught in universities in West and East Africa, Europe and the United States. He holds two PhDs, the first in medical anthropology and the second in social work (focusing on Gender, Health, and Development) from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Dr. Izugbara will take up his post at ICRW in early March.
