Today, ICRW’s Director of Global Health, Youth and Development Chimaraoke Izugbara received the Reproductive Justice & Abortion Research Award at the Abortion & Reproductive Justice: The Unfinished Revolution III conference in South Africa. The conference is hosted by Rhodes University’s Critical Studies in Sexualities and Reproduction research program and in collaboration with the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Coalition (South Africa) and the International Campaign for Women’s Right to Safe Abortion, in partnership with the Department of Social Development (South African government) and a range of other international partners.

The Reproductive Justice & Abortion awards – which include awards for research, advocacy & activism and health & service delivery – are given to acknowledge “people who have devoted time and effort to ensuring that women have access to safe, affordable, and non-discriminatory abortion services.”

Dr. Izugbara is a leading international scholar and researcher on gender, youth, sexuality and maternal, sexual and reproductive health, with over 100 published scholarly papers and books. Prior to joining ICRW, he directed the Population Dynamics and Reproductive Health Program at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), after directing the institution’s Research Capacity Strengthening (RCS) Division for nearly a decade.

We are thrilled by the award, would like to thank Rhodes University and are excited about the work that lies ahead.
